RAM DEBUTS PROMASTER

In 1981, Fiat first introduced the Ducato cargo van to the market. Ducato is now in its third generation and is sold in Europe, Mexico and other markets abroad. In 2012, Chrysler Canada brought the Ducato to Canada to introduce it to fleet customers at events like the Green Fleet Expo and various ride and drives, aimed at assessing fleet interest.

MERCEDES ADDS DIESEL ENGINE TO E-CLASS

In 2013, Luxury car fleet sales accounted for 6.6 per cent of the fleet car market, with luxury SUVs accounted for 4.6 per cent of the light truck fleet market. These executive level vehicles appear to be an increasing part of many compensation packages in corporate fleets. More and more OEM manufacturers are entering the luxury market, with recent entries from Kia (Cadenza and K900) and Hyundai (Equus), and new mid-size luxury entries coming from established luxury brands, including Cadillac (CTS), Audi (A6), and others. Now it is time for Mercedes-Benz to rolls out a new version of its E-Class.

RAM FIRST TO ADD DIESEL TO LIGHT-DUTY PICK-UP

Redesigned for the 2013 model year, the Ram 1500 light-duty pick-up truck has been a winner for Chrysler Group. Ram won the Motor Trend Truck of the Year honour two years in succession, a feat never before done. More recently, Ram won all categories in the Canadian Truck King Challenge, with the Ram 1500 Ecodiesel being named winner in the over $45K and Overall Truck King for 2014.

Canadian Automotive Fleet was recently invited to attend the Rolls Royce 2014 Wraith vehicle launch held in Scottsdale, Arizona. Upon arriving at The Phoenician luxury resort attendees were greeted by the new model built exclusively at the Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood, United Kingdom.

GM UNVEILS CITY EXPRESS CARGO VAN

General Motors unveiled the Chevrolet City Express cargo van during the Canadian Mechanical and Plumbing Exposition at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario. City Express will go on sale in fall 2014 in both Canada and the United States.

VOLKWAGEN DIESELS GAIN GROUND

Sales of diesel engine vehicles in Canada are picking up steam, as more and more OEM manufacturers add diesels into a wider vehicle variety. In particular, one OEM has been making diesel engines available in Canada since 1976. That’s when Volkswagen Canada introduced the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated 50 horsepower diesel in the Rabbit (also known as the Golf) to the Canadian market.

TOYOTA TUNDRA REDESIGNED

In 2012, Toyota Tundra full-size pick-up truck was the highest ranked non-domestic pick-up truck in terms of Canadian fleet sales according to Polk. The Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra and Ram 1500 hold the majority of market share in the segment, consequently Toyota has designed the Tundra for 2014 to increase its presence in the full-size pick-up truck market.

For 2014, the third generation Mazda3 incorporates Mazda’s Kodo design language (first introduced on the CX-5 and a full array of SkyActiv technology. CADILLAC ILLUMINATES NEW CTS

The Cadillac CTS sedan was Introduced in 2002, and is now in its third generation, with the 2003 CTS model having been a finalist for NACOTY, and the 2008 model being named Motor Trend magazine Car of the Year, and Car and Driver magazine’s 10Best cars winner. For 2014, the most prominent change from the second generation is the addition of LED DRLs similar to those used on the ATS. In this version lights start at the hood line and go down to the front lower bumper. Other changes to the front end are a new front fascia, incorporating a larger grille, resembling that on the all-new 2013 XTS full-size sedan.

Volkswagen North America previewed its 2014 model line-up in Napa Valley, California. The event began with a presentation outlining the range of Volkswagen AG worldwide operations followed by a rundown of changes for all 2013 to 2014 models, including the addition of R—Line package for a number of models, and finally a Canadian specific presentation.

NISSAN’S RETHOUGHT 2014 VERSA NOTE HATCHBACK

In 2012, Nissan Versa (hatchback and sedan models) ranked third in fleet sales in the sub-compact model category. In overall sales Versa ranked 21st. with 1,759 units sold to fleet (12,475 units total), Versa trailed only Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Accent in the category. With the introduction of the 2014 Versa Note (hatchback) model to the lineup, Nissan looks for growth in the sub-compact class.

2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO UPS ITS GAME

A total of 183,584 light trucks (including SUV and minivan) were registered to fleets in Canada in the 2012 calendar year. Over 36 per cent of those were large pick-up trucks (which include standard duty 1500, and heavy duty 2500, 3500 and above), making pick-ups the largest segment in the fleet industry and third largest across the board in Canada. Overall, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 along with GMC Sierra 1500 totaled over 12,500 vehicles sold into fleet in 2012.

NISSAN COMPACT CARGO VAN: NV200

Cargo vans accounted for 23.3 per cent of the light truck (183,548 vehicles) market in Canada in 2012. Breaking this down further, small vans accounted for 13.7 per cent of that total. This segment, stable for many years is now growing and a number of OEMs are bringing small cargo van options to the market. Included is the all-new 2013 Nissan NV200, recently launched in California.

Mitsubishi Motors Sales of Canada Inc., unveiled its 2014 Outlander sport utility vehicle (SUV) to a group of journalists in Vancouver, British Columbia. The drive route for the program began in downtown Vancouver, and drove up the Sea-to-Sky highway to Squamish, B.C. Along the way the Outlander was tested both on road and off.

MERCEDES-BENZ ADDS FOUR-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE TO GLK LINE-UP

Mercedes-Benz Canada demonstrated the fuel economies of both diesel and gasoline engines in the 2013 GLK 250 BlueTEC and GLK 350 on a drive route between Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario. The route took the GLK through Montebello, Ottawa, Kingston, Thousand Islands and Port Hope over an array of highway, city and country roads.

SUBARU FORESTER: ALL GROWN UP

Subaru Canada launched the new fourth-generation 2014 Subaru Forester in Nanaimo, British Columbia recently. A group of journalists drove Foresters on a route from Nanaimo, across Vancouver Island to Ucluecet, B.C. Winding roads were obviously the standard for the day, with the route going up and down, left and right, all of which demonstrated the turbocharged Forester’s handling abilities.
