FORD PREVIEWS 2017 SUPER DUTY IN DALLAS
DALLAS, TEXAS - Ford recently invited automotive journalists to the State Fair of Texas to get a preview of the 2017 Ford Super Duty. The fair has taken place since 1886, and an auto show component has been around for much of that time, so it was the perfect place to show the vehicle. It also helps that Texas is pick-up country.
“With innovative use of exclusive materials and construction, the all-new 2017 Super Duty is the toughest, smartest and most capable Super Duty ever,” said Jeff Morton, Fleet and Lease Marketing Manager, Ford of Canada. “It’s designed to meet the needs of our most demanding customers with: increased towing and payload capabilities, technical innovations for enhanced comfort, productivity and towing confidence, and powertrains designed to deliver more combined horsepower and torque than ever.”
The redesigned truck has an all-new fully-boxed frame which uses high strength steel that is up to 24 times stiffer than the outgoing model. The new model also uses high-strength military-grade aluminum alloy for the body of the vehicle. Weight of the truck has been reduced by up to 350 pounds while any additional savings has been put back into the truck.
The new vehicle has many new technologies added, such as the ability to equip the vehicle with up to seven cameras. They include a centre stop lamp camera which sees into the cargo box, a 360-degree system uses four cameras to create a view around the entire truck, also available is a camera that can be attached to the trailer.
Other available technologies are an in-cab trailer tire pressure monitoring system, adaptive steering, BLIS blind spot monitoring (these are mounted inside of the taillights and include the length of the trailer), lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support. Also new is Ford’s updated SYNC 3 system which is all-new and uses an eight-inch touch screen, Use of LED technology is front and centre with the new Super Duty as it offers LED headlights and taillights. Also the cargo box has LED lighting as do sideview mirror spotlights.
The Super Duty offers a completely flat second-row floors on supercab and crew cab. Three cabs are available: regular, supercab and crew, which are all longer than the outgoing model. Available model trims are: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. BoxLink and remote tailgate lock and release is available. The tailgate is also dampened.
Super Duty will be built at the Kentucky Truck Plant, and will go on sale in late 2016.
