2016 CHEVROLET CRUZE LAUNCHED IN DETROIT
DETROIT, MICHIGAN – General Motors invited media from around the world to mark the global debut of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact car. Entering its first complete redesign since its inception in 2010 as a 2011 model, the Cruze is larger, lighter and comes with more options.

“With 3.5 million vehicles sold, the Cruze is Chevrolet’s number-one selling car around the globe and our best-selling passenger car in Canada," said Shane Peever, Brand Manager - Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers, General Motors of Canada Limited. "It’s an important car in a critical segment – almost one in every two cars sold in Canada is a compact car, so we had to get this next generation Cruze right. That’s why you see so much attention to detail and innovative new technology, safety and fuel saving features – we’re pulling out all the stops with the 2016 Cruze”
“The 2016 Cruze builds on a very successful program that introduced Chevrolet to new customers the world over,” said Alan Batey, President, General Motors North America. “We retained all the attributes that made the original Cruze a hit around the globe and built on them to make this car more sophisticated, more fun and more Chevrolet.”
Exterior design has been completely redone from the previous model, implementing the new Chevrolet design language with a new front fascia, grille, light treatment, side profile, and rear fascia. The result is a vehicle, which is 68 millimetres longer, 25mm shorter in height, has a more raked windshield, and a longer wheelbase.
The interior of the vehicle is meant to be more upscale and integrate many of today’s technologies that customers expect in their vehicles. Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system is all new and offers a seven-inch touchscreen that can integrate with many mobile phones. An upgraded version of the MyLink system is available with an eight-inch screen and Apple CarPlay. CarPlay integration allows iPhone features to be projected onto the vehicles screen. Features that are available are phone, messages, maps, music and any third-party app that is compatible. Apple iOs 7.1 or higher is required.
Under the hood the vehicle has three powertrain options; however, only one has officially been announced for the Canadian market for the 2016MY. The new standard engine will be a 1.4 litre Ecotec turbocharged four-cylinder engine with start/stop technology has 153 horsepower and 177 foot/pounds of torque mated to either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. A 1.6L turbo diesel engine is expected to be available for the North America market in 2017. A 1.5L Ecotec engine will also be available in certain global markets (currently GM has no plans to offer this engine in Canada).
Safety is covered on the Cruze with a total of 10 standard air bags, available side blind spot alert, rear-cross traffic alert, lane keeping assist and forward collision alert. Also the pedal assembly is collapsible, tire pressure monitoring system is available and headlamps are automatic.
