JUST CALL ME CROSSTREK
Since its 2012 introduction, the Subaru XV Crosstrek has had a mouthful of a name. For 2016 however, it will henceforth be known simply as the Crosstrek. Subaru has decided to drop the XV name from the North American model. The XV moniker will continue in other markets.

Subaru organized a selection of media drives in three Canadian markets (Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal), to show off the capabilities of the 2016 CrossTrek. At the Toronto event, which began downtown, a drive up north of the GTA allowed the Crosstrek to get its feet (I mean wheels) wet as it traversed a creek as part of an off-road course. With a ground clearance of 220 millimetres Crosstrek had no problem navigating the creek or the offroad course. When it returned to the paved road, a smooth ride ensued.

As part of the drive, Subaru also set up a handling course at its head quarters in Mississauga. As part of the course the Crosstrek was driven over a island curb to show its ground clearance, as well as over a selection of objects (case of water and a tire).

The Crosstrek is a rugged version of its sibling, Impreza, so it has many of the on road manners of its relation and is comfortable on or off the beaten track.

To celebrate the name change, Subaru has made a number of changes to the vehicle. In front the hexagon grill and wing design have been altered, along with chrome accents being added to the fog lights and the bumper design has also been refreshed. Wheels and headlights offer an updated look.

On the inside the changes are subtle but effective, with stitching now being offered in orange instead of white on seats and shifter, a new steering wheel with updated controls and the addition of available silver and black high gloss trim. The Crosstrek is available with a seven-inch infotainment system with navigation that includes Siri eyes free compatibility, SiriusXM advanced audio features and travel link.

The Crosstrek is now equipped with standard Partial Zero Emission Vehicle equipment resulting in the vehicle emitting nearly zero smog causing emissions. The system meets the Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle tailpipe standard.

As with all Subaru vehicles, Crosstrek comes with symmetrical all-wheel-drive. Third-generation EyeSight technology is also available. It is offered with either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The Crosstrek is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder BOXER engine that generates 148 horsepower and 145 foot/pounds of torque.

A hybrid model is also available.
