The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) concluded a week of vehicle testing as part of the Canadian Car of the Year event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Clarington, Ontario.

As an element of the Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) awards, the collected data, is based on back-to-back vehicle testing carried out by AJAC member journalists, and is known as TestFest. In all, 1,384 test drives were done at this year’s TestFest in a wide range of vehicles.

“The benefits are twofold,” says Justin Pritchard, CCOTY co-chair. “First, back-to-back testing brings out even subtle differences between competitors, which are reflected in the scoring results. And second, all of our results are quantified. When a vehicle wins or loses in the program, the public can see precisely why, since all of our testing and voting data is published online at This isn’t a popularity contest. When we declare a winner, we’ve got hundreds of thousands of data points, collected during thousands of man-hours of controlled test-drives, to back it up.”

The finalists for each “Best New” category were announced and will compete to be the winner in each category. Winners will be announced December 6, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario.

Category winners will then compete for the titles of 2017 Canadian Car of the Year, 2017 Canadian Truck or Utility of the Year, 2017 Canadian Green Car of the Year, and 2017 Canadian Green Truck or Utility Vehicle of the year. Winners will be announced in 2017.
