CLEAN CAR PROGRAMS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
Commencing December 1, the province of British Columbia will add $17 million in funding to help consumers get clean energy vehicles, and to support the province’s green technology sector. Four programs will be available, a point-of-sale incentive program offering up to $5,000 off the price of a qualifying new battery electric, fuel cell electric, plug-in hybrid electric or compressed natural gas vehicle bought on or after December 1. Examples include: Nissan LEAF, Mitsubishi iMiEV, Tesla Roadster, Toyota Prius, and Chevrolet Volt among others.
“The point-of-sale rebate program is key to attracting new clean energy vehicles to the B.C. market,” said Blair Qualey, CEO, New Car Dealers Association of B.C. “Manufacturers are eager to launch their new electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell cars in markets that demonstrate both high demand and with infrastructure in place, B.C. is now one of those markets.”
Other programs available are, a rebate of up to $500 for residential charging stations installed on or after December 1; over $6 million infrastructure funding for new charging stations and upgrades to hydrogen fuelling stations; and additional funding of $2.5 million to expand the BC SCRAP-IT initiative.
“We’re excited about moving more power polluters off of B.C. roads. It’s clear with programs like these, British Columbia is committed to providing greener options for a cleaner future,” Dennis Rogoza, CEO, BC Scrap-It Society. “These older vehicles scrapped by our program represent emissions that are up to 60 times greater than that of newer vehicles.”
