F-150‘S FOUR NEW POWERTRAIN OPTIONS

Ford’s four new F-150 available powertrains matched to six-speed automatic transmissions were introduced at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas, Texas, providing the opportunity to drive a variety of 2011 Ford F-150 models.

Attendees at the Speedway engaged in an EcoBoost drive (showing fuel economy), competitive drive, best-in-class towing drive (with trailer), and best-in-class power drive, each to demonstrate specific capabilities.

For 2011, four new F-150 engines are available. The line-up includes: 3.5 litre Ti-VCT EcoBoost, available early 2011, offering 365 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque; 3.7L Ti-VCT V-6 with 302 hp and 278 ft-lbs of torque; 5.0L Ti-VCT V-8 with 360 hp and 380 ft-lbs of torque; and 6.2L V-8 with 411 hp and 434 ft-lbs of torque. Each engine is matched to a six speed automatic transmission as standard, with available SelectShift.

The 3.5L EcoBoost, 3.7L V-6 and 5.0L V-8 are offered with electric power-assist steering (EPAS), replacing the conventional hydraulic system. The new system draws power only when needed, saving on fuel.

“The addition of EPAS is a huge step forward for F-150,” said Eric Kuehn, Chief Engineer of 2011 F-150. “It allows for lighter parking lot efforts but will retain that on-road feel and steering precision truck customers expect.”

New features include: a 4.2-inch LCD message center (which includes information on fuel economy, towing performance, and off-roading), remote start, perimeter alarm and a larger in-mirror rear view camera.

SYNC and Ford Work Solutions technologies are also available on the 2011 Ford F-150. Work Solutions offers an in-dash computer with high-speed Internet; Tool Link, a real-time tracking system for tools or equipment; Crew Chief, fleet telematics and diagnostic system; and Cable Lock System. F-150 is available in XL, STX, XLT, FX2/FX4 and Lariat trim levels, as well as King Ranch, Platinum, SVT Raptor and Harley-Davidson.

“The 2011 Ford F-150 has all the best-in-class towing and payload capability and durability our tough truck customers demand and now takes a giant leap forward in fuel economy, performance and technology,” said Kuehn. The 2011 Ford F-150 will be available in late 2010.
