NEW IMPREZA 30 PER CENT MORE FUEL EFFICIENT Subaru Canada recently unveiled the new 2012 Subaru Impreza to the media at Mississauga Convention Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Four-door sedan models and five-door hatchback models were available for two test drive routes through the Mississauga and Milton areas. For 2012, Impreza is all-new with redesigned exterior and interior. Notably the side profile has more prominent wheel arches, with the Subaru badge centering a hexagonal grille with hawk-eye headlights. The windshield is more raked as the bottom of the A-pillar is moved forward 200 millimetres and is thinner for better visibility. This results in the front door opening being 125 mm longer allowing for easier entry/exit. A new 2.0 litre BOXER engine is added for 2012 and produces 148 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 145 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm with either a five-speed manual transmission or second-generation Lineartronic CVT. The engine accents low and mid-range torque, reduced friction and improved emissions performance, and is tuned for regular unleaded fuel. The 2012 Impreza with a CVT transmission has a combined fuel rating of 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres (7.5L/100km city, 5.5 L/100km highway), overall a 30 per cent increase in fuel economy over the previous model, which achieved a combine fuel rating of 9.1 L/100km. In term of safety, Impreza offers four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, VDC, EBD and brake assist as standard, with brake override added. Air bags are abundant with dual front, side impact, side curtain and knee air bags included. As with all Subaru models, a full-time symmetrical All Wheel Drive system is standard. Other features include: whiplash reducing front seats, telescoping steering wheel, brake override system, multi-function display and driver’s side auto-up power window. Touring package gets auto headlights, rear stabilizer, cloth door trim (also available on Sports package) paddle shiftcontrols (with CVT), cargo cover (also available on Sport and Limited package), and rear-seat armrest. Sport package offers a 4.3 inch colour multi-function display with steering wheel controls and sport gauges (also av ailable on Limited package), 17” alloy wheels, and automatic climate control. Limited package has door mirrors with LED signals, dual zone climate control, HID headlights, chrome door handles, leather door trim, and Pioneer in-dash display audio system with iPod/USB, Bluetooth and steering wheel mounted controls. Subaru Impreza has won ALG’s Residual Value Award in the mid-compact car segment three years running (2009, 2010 and 2011). Subaru offers a fleet incentive of $1,250 on the new 2012 Impreza. |
