Over 435 industry professionals attended the Canadian Black Book and J.D. Power sixth annual TalkAUTO Canada conference at the Toronto Congress Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The theme for the conference was Customer Engagement in a Digital World, and a series of presentations and keynotes expanded on the timely topic.

“What a day! The presenters were phenomenal; the content was right on topic. We could not have asked for a livelier group, all discussing the issues that face auto retailing today,” says Brad Rome, President, Canadian Black Book and one of the day’s hosts. Rome proudly acknowledged the 7000 years of automotive experience attendees brought into the room and thanked them for their attendance. Presentations, panel discussions and networking sessions covered topics ranging from measuring customer experience in a digital world to the future of mobility and more.

Moderated by Yves Varin, CBB , the dealer issues panel addressed the topic of digital initiatives and their impact on Canadian dealerships. Panelist’s emphasized that successful sales, always begin and end with the customer relationship. Trends indicate that customer’s still want to touch and feel their final purchase. Physical dealerships are not forecasted to be obsolete anytime soon.

Keynote Speaker Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO, Toyota Canada Inc. discussed Toyota’s perspective on autonomous vehicle technology. “I don’t think there’s ever been a better, more exciting time to be a part of the automotive industry,” said Hutchinson. “Automated vehicle technology is going to revolutionize mobility – and transform society – in ways more profound than the move from the horse-drawn carriage to the Model T.”

“It’s hard to imagine how we can offer a better line-up of speakers and continue to grow this event for the years to come. But this momentum is surely a good sign and we look forward to getting to work to make next year’s TalkAUTO just as exciting, and even bigger” says Tim Braley, Sr. Director, JD Power.
