TOYOTA CANADA PUTS SAFETY FIRST AT RIDE AND DRIVE

Toyota Canada Inc., held a ride and drive event at Copper Creek Golf Course in Kleinburg, Ontario. The event brought together fleet professionals to drive a selection of Toyota products.

The session began with presentations by Toyota representatives on accident cause and prevention. The main causes of accidents were discussed, including forward collisions, unintended lane departures, and nighttime visibility accidents.

This was followed up by a detailed presentation of Toyota’s Safety Sense (TSS) systems. First is TSS-C, which detects cars and uses laser-based radar, and TSS-P, which detects cars and pedestrians, and uses millimeter wave radar. TSS-C offers lane departure alert, pre-collision system and automatic high beams. TSS-P offers lane departure alert with steering assist function, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection function and dynamic radar cruise control.

Vehicles available standard with TSS-C are 2016 Prius c Tech, 2017 Corolla iM, and 2017 Yaris HB. Vehicles available with TSS-P are 2016 Avalon LTD, 2017 Prius/Prime, 2017 Corolla, 2017 RAV4 and Hybrid, and 2017 Highlander and Hybrid. Toyota plans to offer TSS package on almost every new vehicle by end of 2017.

Next, a rundown of Toyota vehicles being updated for 2017 was featured. These included the Corolla, which received a mid-model update with 800 new or revised parts including interior and exterior design. Toyota iM has been added to the line-up for 2017, Prius has new hybrid batteries for this year, Highlander got a mid-model change for 2017 with new drivetrains (gas and hybrid), Tundra and RAV4 were also discussed.

The event concluded with a ride and drive in and around scenic Kleinburg.
