WORLD’S FIRST TIRE MANUFACTURED USING ORANGE OIL
Yokohama Tire Corporation introduced dB Super E-spec, first tire to use orange oil, using 80 per cent non-petroleum materials. “The eco-focused db Super E-spec mixes sustainable orange oil and natural rubber to drastically cut the use of petroleum, without compromising performance,” said Dan King, Yokohama, vice-president of sales. “It also helps consumers save money at the gas pump by improving fuel efficiency via a 20 per cent reduction in rolling resistance.”
LED LOW BEAM LIGHT Hamser's new 90 millimetre LED low beam projector light is intended for mass transit and recreational vehicles and commercial trucks. The LED is designed to replace any 90 mm halogen low beam light (in 12V or 24V applications), and lasts up to 20,000 hours using 20 per cent less power. Hamsar LED light is SAE/DOT compliant. MicroGreen is claimed to filter out particles two microns in size. “Conventional filters only capture particles at 25 to 40 microns. Therefore, the oil stays cleaner longer, which allows one to use the oil for a longer period of time,” said Steve Kirchner, COO for SOMS. 65 to 70 per cent reduction in oil maintenance costs is claimed as well as a 50 per cent drop in filter use and up to a five per cent improvement in fuel efficiency. Intellione, a traffic information company, and Rogers Wireless, announced the launch of io-trafficTM. It collects and aggregates millions of GPS and mobile phone locations, creates road speeds than paints a live picture of traffic conditions. Radio station 680News will be first to provide listeners with traffic reports in the Greater Toronto Area. "For traffic reporters, web and map portals, fleet operators and others, io-traffic delivers timely, accurate and detailed traffic congestion information on most roadways," said Intellione's COO, Willem Galle. A government study released in March 2006, by Canada's Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, showed the costs of traffic congestion to Canadians in urban areas is between $2.3 and $3.7 billion per year (in 2002 dollar values). Io-traffic is currently available in the Toronto-area with plans to expand to Ontario cottage country and other major Canadian urban centres.
