The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) named the 2018 Innovation Award winners as part of the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

"I call this our inaugural year, as we have taken what used to be called the Technology awards and made them broader reaching. We've even added a category, and this is now our opportunity to recognize the very best – and most innovative – examples of new automotive technology available to Canadian drivers," said Mark Richardson, President, AJAC.

Toyota was a double winner as it won the Best Green Innovation with its Gas Injection Heat Pump System Design in the 2017/2018 Prius Prime; and the Best Safety Innovation to Lexus for its Safety System +.

“Lexus developed the Lexus Safety System + A to enhance the driver’s awareness and capabilities like never before,” said Jennifer Barron, Director of Lexus in Canada. “We’re honored that the members of AJAC have recognized our efforts to make the roads safer for all users with this important award.”

General Motors won the award for Best Technical Innovation with its Cadillac Super Cruise Technology.

“Cadillac is honoured to be recognized by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada for our Super Cruise ™ technology” said Hossein Hassani, managing director, Cadillac Canada. “Cadillac’s philosophy is to elevate driving. Super Cruise™ enables safe, simple hands-free driving for the highway and is evidence of the expertise and leadership in innovation at Cadillac.”

Automotive journalists specializing in technology made up the judging panel. Entries submitted by OEMs were reviewed and a short list of finalists determined. A second round of voting was done to establish a winner.

Finalists were: Best Green Innovation: Chevrolet: Regen-on-Demand System (Chevrolet Bolt) Lexus: Multi-stage hybrid system Toyota: Gas Injection Heat Pump System Design
