March 8, 2010 WHEEL’S DRIVER TAX COMPLIANCE SERVICE EXPANDS LANGUAGE SUPPORT Wheels, Inc., personal use/taxable benefit service, Driver Tax Compliance, now allows reporting in French, Spanish and English. “By adding multiple language capabilities and making the entire process more straightforward, we’ve made it more convenient for drivers to report and certify their personal and business mileage for tax purposes,” said Pete Regis, client services and driver tax compliance manager. The changes compliment existing multi-language support for new vehicle ordering and mileage log capabilities already in place. February 26, 2010 ![]() 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 Turbo Diesel Engine. Ford announced the new 2011 Super Duty 6.2L V-8 and 6.7L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V-8 horsepower and torque numbers. Super Duty’s 6.2L FlexFuel gas engine will produce 385 hp and 405 ft-lbs of torque, while the Power Stroke 6.7L engine will produce 390 hp and 735 ft-lbs of torque. Power Stroke engine block is made with compacted graphite iron, reduces weight and maximizes strength; use of aluminum cylinder heads also reduces weight and increases strength. February 19, 2010 NAFA’S GOILL AWARD SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN The National Association of Fleet Administrators Larry Goill Memorial Quality Fleet Management Idea award is accepting submissions until March 12. To be presented at the NAFA Institute and Expo in Detroit, Michigan, the award recognizes individuals in fleet industry who demonstrate innovative ideas. “They [the awards] showcase how fleet professionals turn situations into solutions,” said Phillip Russo, executive director, NAFA. “They are among the best ideas in today’s fleet management profession. February 19, 2010 CANADIAN NAFA CHAPTERS INCREASE MEMBERSHIP The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) membership drive for 2009 made Ken DeWolf of Spectra Energy in Chatham, Ontario the top recruiter for North America. DeWolf was recognized with a free trip to the 2010 Institute and Expo in Detroit, Michigan. Five other awards, registrations to the Institute and Expo conference, were given to five NAFA members including: Brendan Keaveney, city of Brampton and Yvan Lupien, city of Ottawa. The largest member increases were recorded in Ontario, Washington, D.C., and Texas/Louisiana. February 19, 2010 MAACO ANNOUNCES A CROSS PROMOTION WITH ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR Maaco Collision Repair will offer a free car rental from Enterprise Rent-A-Car with pre-tax purchases of $500 or more at Maaco shops in the greater Toronto area. It was followed by ADESA Halifax and ADESA Calgary. The tier 2 winner was Manheim Montreal, followed by ADESA Quebec and Manheim Oshawa. Pentastar Award winners are determined on pre-sale, sale, post-sale and value retention criteria. February 12, 2010 ![]() 2011 Buick Regal. Beginning in the fourth quarter of 2010, General Motor’s Oshawa Car Assembly Plant will add a second shift to its flexible manufacturing line. Some 700 employees will be recalled to build 2011 Camaro convertibles and Buick Regals. ”The addition of the second shift is terrific news for our employees, the CAW, suppliers and the community,” said Dan Hermer, assembly plant manager. February 8, 2010 ASTONISHING COINCIDENCE; THIS WAS NOT A DRILL EITHER JPL Vehicle Management Services Toronto office was able to successfully implement its established business continuity plan on Friday February 5 when a vehicle collision outside JPL offices ruptured a main gas line. “We are delighted to report that all our employees were safely evacuated and we were able to keep critical business functions such as our Scoretrak Maintenance Program and Accident Management Programs operational within several hours of this incident,” said Phil Gilmour, vice-president marketing and corporate development, JPL. “All telephone lines were re-directed to our Calgary branch office allowing us to continue to respond to client calls and requests.” February 4, 2010 THIS WAS NOT A DRILL Executive and customer service offices in Mississauga were vacated quickly on the afternoon of Wednesday February 3, when fire broke out on the third floor of the building in which ARI is located. Within minutes, ARI's established disaster recovery response kicked in, telephone calls were automatically rerouted to either Montreal for French language callers or to the U.S. for English speakers. "We didn't miss a beat," said ARI president, Fred Booth. Apart from some broken windows where firefighters had entered and some minor smoke effects no serious damage was incurred.
