NISSAN 2012 NV AIMS TO DELIVER
Nissan Canada Inc., showed its new commercial van, the 2012 NV (Nissan Van) in Miami, Florida. Nissan used the occasion to donate a sum of $35,000 to the local Habitat for Humanity to purchase building supplies. The supplies were picked-up at a local building supply store and delivered to the Habitat site by journalists driving the NVs.

The press preview also included a presentation detailing Nissan’s future plans for the commercial van vehicle segment, a business update, and an overview of the launch plan for the NV.

“Looking at the CV market in recent years, there’s been a migration of van users to light-duty pickups due to the lack of comfort, image and dependability of the current outdated van platforms, said Joe Castelli, Vice-President, Commercial Vehicles and Fleet, Nissan North America, Inc. Yet many of these truck owners admit they need a van for weather protection, security and the convenience of a tall roof van to carry large items or equipment. With the Nissan NV, we’re giving them the best of both worlds.”

Nissan’s NV will be available in spring 2011 in several configurations. Available are: standard roof in either a 1500 (with 4.0 litre V-6 engine), or 2500 and 3500 (with either V-6 or 5.6L V-8 engine). A high roof is available in 2500 (with V-6 or V-8 engine) and in 3500 (with V-8 engine). The 4.0 litre V-6 engine produces 261 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. Alternatively, the 5.6L V-8 engine offers 317 hp and 385 ft-lbs of torque, both engines are matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. NV is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brakes system.

A centre console is available, as are four cup holders and instrument panel storage compartments. High roof models offer an available overhead console.

The cargo area has available wide-coverage lighting system and upfitter pre-wiring. It provides 6,629 liters of cargo space in a standard roof, and 9,149 liters in the high roof configuration. Additionally, the rear cargo doors open 243 degrees on non-intruding hinges.

Safety features on NV are dual-stage front air bags standard, with available front seat-mounted side air bags and roof-mounted curtain air bags.
