2012 VW PASSAT: BIGGER, MORE FUEL EFFICIENT
Volkswagen unveiled the all-new, to be built in North America, 2012 Passat at the new state-of-the-art VW plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The plant will build 150,000 North American Passats, has a capacity for 250,000 vehicles and can be flipped to build twice that number.

The 2012 Passat will be available with three engine choices: 2.5 litre inline-five cylinder engine with 170 horsepower, 177 pound-feet of torque paired with five-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmissions; 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel four cylinder engine with 140 hp, 236 ft-lbs, with six-speed manual or Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automatic; or 3.6L VR-6 engine with 280 hp, 258 lb-ft, with six-speed DSG automatic. Fuel economy on TDI is 6.5L/100 kilometres city, 4.5L/100km highway; 2.5L, 10.1L/100km city and 6.5L/100km highway for manual, and 9.6L/100km city and 6.7L/100 highwy on automatic; 3.6L is 10.9L/100km city, and 7.4L/100km highway.

Passat offers 430L of cargo room and 60/40 split folding rear seats. Considered a large mid-size vehicle, it grows in size from its previous incarnations to 4,868 millimetres in length, 1,835 mm in width and 1,487 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,803 mm; it is the largest Passat to date. Interior dimensions are a generous 972-975 mm front and 960 mm rear headroom, 1077 mm front and 992 mm rear legroom, and 1445 mm front and 1448 mm rear shoulder room.

Safety for the Passat, is amply demonstrated by: standard six airbags (driver and passenger front, and front side airbags with side curtain); Intelligent Crash Response System (fuel supply and electronics are shut off, doors unlock, battery terminal disconnects from alternator and h

azard lights are activated); and standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-slip regulation (ASR) and more. Passat will be available in Treadline, Treadline+, Comfortline and Highline trims, each with varying equipment. Passat will be available in September 2011.
