THREE TIMES A CHARM FOR SUBARU

ALG named the winners of the ninth annual Canadian Residual Value awards for 2017 model year vehicles. Subaru took the top mainstream brand title for the third straight year as did Land Rover for the top premium brand.

“Residual values are a key indicator of the overall market success and health of a vehicle and brand,” said Jim Nguyen, President, ALG. “And with vehicle leasing on the rise, resale values have never been more important to both consumers and automakers.”

27 segments were recognized (ranging from city car to full-size commercial van), brands that, according to ALG, “forecast to retain the highest percentage of their MSRP after a four-year period for Mainstream brands and three-year period for Premium brands.”

In addition to the Mainstream award, Subaru also won a total of four segment awards including Best Compact Car (Impreza), Best Midsize Utility - 2 row (Outback), Best Sports Car (WRX / WRX STI) and Best Subcompact Utility (Crosstrek).

"Being named Best Mainstream Brand in the 2017 ALG Canadian Residual Value Awards, for the third year in a row, is further proof of what Subaru owners experience for themselves – a Subaru offers excellent value for the money," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada. "When we consider our new ALG acknowledgements and couple it with IHS Automotive's report that fully 98 percent of all Subaru vehicles sold in Canada over the last 10 years are still on the road today, we get a strong winning combination of quality, reliability and value."

Toyota earned a total of six segment awards including the Tundra for the eight consecutive years, and the Tacoma for the seventh consecutive year.

“At the heart of the great product we deliver to Canadians is our commitment to adding value to the overall ownership experience,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of TCI. “These awards are deeply meaningful because they speak to the long-term benefits our customers enjoy across our broad line-up of vehicles, including exceptional quality, great fuel economy and lower cost of ownership.”

The awards were presented to automakers at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.
