FCA hosted over 150 fleet customers and partners for the FCA Canada 2019 Spring Fleet Event in Toronto recently. Bernie Moorcroft, National Commercial Sales Manager FCA Canada, welcomed guests to the event and gave a brief overview of what customers can expect from FCA in the coming years. Bernie spoke to FCA’s proud investment in Canada. The company currently employ’s 11,000 Canadians. He also talked about FCA’s 5 year business plan, which includes a $14 billion dollar investment in electrification, and a $65 billion dollar investment in new products. By 2022, 80% of the FCA lineup will be completely renewed.
Bernie also introduced the FCA Canada Fleet team who were in attendance, and welcomed FCA’s Pierre Ratelle, who took guests through the stars of the show- the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty pick up and the all new 2020 Jeep Gladiator.
Strength, capability, technology and luxury are the hallmarks of the all-new Ram Heavy Duty. Packed with features like best-in-class towing capacity, best-in-class payload capacity and best-in-class torque output (1,000 lb-ft)- Ram HD is ready to work. Ram HD comes standard with a 6.4 litre HEMI V8 engine with cylinder deactivation and variable cam timing (VCT). The standard engine in the 2500 and 3500 delivers class leading 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. For the first time, a TorqueFlight eight speed-automatic accompanies the 6.4l HEMI. An available 6.7-litre Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel paired with an Aisin AS69RC electronically controlled six speed automatic achieves a milestone setting 1,000 lb.-ft of torque enabling a towing capacity of 15,92 kg and a payload capacity of 3,484-kg. The pickup’s 98.5 percent high-strength steel frame offers greater capacities, reduced weight and the highest levels of torsional rigidity. Overall weight of the truck has been reduced by 65kg, improving fuel economy.
The HD pickups include more than 100 available safety and security elements, including an array of active and passive systems to assist driver and passengers alike. The exterior is available with six different grille styles in a departure from the historic crosshair grille. The new Ram Heavy Duty continues to offer RamBox. The industry-first RamBox Cargo Management System includes versatile, weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bins built into the bed rails. New for 2019, RamBox features a 115-volt outlet with up to 400-watts of power. The award-winning fourth-generation Uconnect system offers new convenience and connected services, and keeps Ram truck customers connected, engaged and informed all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Guests also had the opportunity to explore the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The mid-size truck combines the freedom and adventure of the brands iconic Jeep Wrangler with the capability of its trucks.
The Gladiator delivers best-in-class towing and 4x4 payload capacity, composed driving dynamics and passenger safety. Its off-road capability comes from the Command-Trac and on Rubicon models Rock-Trac 4x4 systems, third-generation Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited-slip differential, sway-bar disconnect and 33-inch off-road tires.
The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 carries over from Wrangler, producing 285 horsepower and 260 ft-pounds of torque. Next year, a 3-L turbocharged diesel V6 will be available for drivers to choose from.
Gladiator shares some innovative elements from its Wrangler relation that Jeep drivers appreciate. The doors are removable, you can still fold down the windscreen, and there are three interesting roof options, which makes the Gladiator the only open-air mid-size pickup truck available today. It also outfitted with the fourth generation uConnect infotainment system.
Gladiator has a maximum payload capacity of 1,600 pounds and a max tow capacity rating of 7,650 pounds and a combined fuel economy of 12.3L/100km.
The afternoon included a Ride & Drive where guests could experience the Ram HD and Gladiator on a closed course track. Gary Bruce, Senior Sales Manager, Wheels Canada commented on the Gladiator; “I was looking forward to driving the Gladiator and it handled better than I expected. It drives very smoothly. It has a lot to offer.”
The FCA Spring Fleet Tour will continue across Canada, making stops in Alberta, B.C and Quebec.
