Volkswagen has added a new member to its growing SUV family, with the debut of the Taos. The compact SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged and direct-injection engine that generates 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The engine can be paired with either 8-speed automatic and front wheel drive or 7 speed DSG dual-clutch automatic and VW’s available 4Motion all wheel Drive. The Taos is based on VW’s MQB architecture and combines a spacious interior with its rugged looks. Taos competes at the middle of the entry -compact space, being just over 9 inches shorter than its sibling Tiguan. The interior space belies the shorter wheelbase providing 99.5 cubic feet of passenger space. The 2022 Taos will be available in three trim levels, S, SE and SEL.
