Kelowna, B.C.-based Current Taxi will start all-electric cab services in Victoria, B.C. starting on December 1.
The company was given the go-ahead by the B.C. Passenger Transportation Board, which is responsible for taxi licensing, in spite of opposition from existing taxi operators in the area.
“We believe that it is our responsibility to do better than the current standard in the taxi industry for the environment, and for our customers,” Current’s founder Dale Conway told the Victoria Times Colonist newspaper. “It’s our goal to revolutionize this industry one ride at a time.”
The company's Victoria fleet includes 15 Tesla vehicles, including all three models currently on the market – the Model X, Model S and Model 3.
Current Taxi has been serving the Kelowna, Peachland and Lake Country areas of B.C's interior since it was launched in 2017. It was recently granted permission to increase that fleet from 7 to 13 vehicles.
