A new report from AutoForecast Solutions indicates that vehicle production losses due to semiconductor shortages will hit the 7 million plus mark before the chip issue is resolved, with almost 6 million units of production lost thus far. The pain is being spread around the globe with North America having lost 1.95 million units, Europe, 1.76 and China 1.22 million. As the technology  content in new vehicles is rising dramatically, many auto executives don’t believe chip supplies would return to normal until at least 2022.
