Auto service businesses have been granted essential status in the Ontario government's shutdown to prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although many retail businesses have been ordered closed, auto repair has been deemed essential to ensuring that front line workers can stay on the road and able to get to and from work. Car dealers are also allowed to operate, although showroom operations have been limited.
The province has also extended deadlines for plate renewals and transfers, and canceled driver's tests for both commercial and individual licenses. Driver, vehicle and carrier products and services that expired on or after March 1, 2020 have been extended. For the complete list, see: https://www.ontario.ca/page/extended-validation-periods.
The province has launched a toll-free line 1-888-444-3659 to provide support to Ontario businesses with questions about the province's recent emergency order to close at-risk workplaces following recommendations by Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health.
