A number of global automakers has announced vehicle production cuts stemming from a shortage of the semiconductors that are essential to the manufacture of their cars and trucks.

Manufacturers from a variety of industries are facing a global chip shortage as a result of consumer demand bouncing back from the coronavirus faster than expected. Semiconductor manufacturing capacity has been stretched thin globally from demand from other products using them including laptops for working from home and gaming consoles.
