The Toyota Motor Corporation has announced it will be cutting global production for September by about 40% or 360,000 vehicles. The OEM is among the last to be impacted by the semiconductor shortage. Toyota had weathered the chip shortage better than many of its competitors due to its business continuity plan adopted after the 2011 earthquake and Fukishima nuclear disaster. However, a resurgence in Covid-19 cases in  Japan, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia, all home to semiconductor manufacturing plants have led to more chip shortfalls. The shortage will impact Toyota’s North American operations as it also announced a drop in production of between sixty to ninety thousand vehicles.
