Ford Motor Company will open a new battery development centre, supported by a $185 Million investment. The new Ion Labs will help Ford fast track development of next generation batteries. The investment gives more credence to the idea of Ford setting up its own battery production facilities as the auto industry accelerates the shift from internal combustion engine(ICE) power to electrified vehicles, especially pure battery electric vehicles (BEV). “We’re much more aggressive and bullish on how fast we think this transition is going to play out,” said Ford’s chief product platform and operations manager, Hua Thai-Tang, about the investment.
