Citing ongoing semiconductor chip shortages, General Motors has announced it will be cutting production at eight North American assembly plants in September.  An industry wide chip shortage has wreaked havoc with OEM production globally and this latest news indicates the problem won’t be resolved for some time. GM will be idling plants that build midsize trucks, full size vans and many of its line up of SUVs. During the downtime GM said it will repair and ship unfinished vehicles from some of the impacted plants.
