Ride hailing company Lyft’s new “priority mode” is leaving some drivers down in the dumps. While the new feature promises drivers who use it would get more rides than those who don’t, they have to agree to a 10% pay cut. The feature is Lyft’s latest  attempt to deal with fall out from the coronavirus that has negatively impacted the company in a significant way. “The priority program works because the labour supply is indefinite at present. It wouldn’t work if people weren’t desperate for income right now,” said J.J. Fueser, a researcher with RideFair, a ride-hailing driver advocacy group. “It’s a race to the bottom”, she concluded.
