The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has named the Nissan Leaf Plus the winner of its 2020 Canadian Green Car of the Year award, while the Hyundai Kona Electric is 2020 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year.
The awards were to be presented at the Vancouver International Auto Show, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year but the show was postponed due to COVID-19. Instead, the winners were announced online by AJAC president Stephanie Wallcraft.
As part of AJAC’s overall Car of the Year testing, they are judged on such factors as driving performance, handling, practicality, comfort and value, along with additional criteria based on their size, powertrain, and purpose.
The Nissan Leaf Plus was introduced for 2019 as a longer-range version of the Leaf, with a Natural Resources Canada rating of up to 363 kilometres on a charge.
The Kona, an all-electric version of Hyundai’s crossover was an all-new 2019 model with a range of 400km.
