FCA’s Ram truck division unveiled its new 2019 Heavy Duty (HD) pickup truck lineup at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on January 14th. Ram has redesigned the Heavy Duty line to be the best riding, handling and towing iteration ever with a focus on comfort and confidence.
Ram HD comes standard with a 6.4 litre HEMI V8 engine with cylinder deactivation and variable cam timing (VCT). The standard engine in the 2500 and 3500 delivers class leading 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. For the first time, a TorqueFlight eight speed-automatic accompanies the 6.4l HEMI. An available 6.7-litre Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel paired with an Aisin AS69RC electronically controlled six speed automatic achieves a milestone setting 1,000 lb.-ft of torque enabling a towing capacity of 15,92 kg and a payload capacity of 3,484-kg. The pickup’s 98.5 percent high-strength steel frame offers greater capacities, reduced weight and the highest levels of torsional rigidity. Overall weight of the truck has been reduced by 65kg.
The HD pickups include more than 100 available safety and security elements, including an array of active and passive systems to assist driver and passengers alike. The exterior is available with six different grille styles in a departure from the historic crosshair grille. The new Ram Heavy Duty continues to offer RamBox. The industry-first RamBox Cargo Management System includes versatile, weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bins built into the bed rails. New for 2019, RamBox features a 115-volt outlet with up to 400-watts of power. The award-winning fourth-generation Uconnect system offers new convenience and connected services, and keeps Ram truck customers connected, engaged and informed all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
