At a recent Toyota information session dubbed HQ Confidential, Toyota officials discussed the potential for producing a small truck. The discussions came as small truck sales have blossomed with the recent success of the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. “There is space,” acknowledged Jack Hollis, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor North America. “The question is how to fill it.” Toyota doesn’t have to build a compact truck, but doesn’t want to miss an opportunity, said Cooper Erickson, TMC.  “The more Ford and Hyundai sell, the more we’ll be able to get good research on who these customers are, why they want these vehicles, and we’ll see if that’s a space that we want to enter into.”
