Volkswagen has signed its first partner for its modular platform for electric vehicles. German E-Vehicle start-up e.GO Mobile will use VW’s MEB production system to “bring e-vehicles to the market that complement Volkswagen’s model offering,” VW said in a statement. A specific vehicle has not yet been decided.
VW’s platform seeks the cost advantages of large production numbers by standardizing as much as possible even across different vehicle models. Back in January, VW announced it was exploring joint development of EV’s with Ford. VW plans to invest $34 billion in e-mobility until 2023.
